Time Warp- New Wave Goth Party, ok so this is one time when the lameness of the Barbary might work towards you good time rather than against it. No cover at the Barbary.

Alexandra Day- At Chris' Jazz cafe on 1421 Sansom St. no cover from 5:30-7:30

Bob and Barbaras Drag Show- The longest running drag show in Philadelphia hosted by Miss Lisa Lisa 11pm-1am $6. At 1509 South St.

Jennifer Egan- "Jennifer Egan's newest novel "A Visit From The Goon Squad" follows the relationship of an aging punk rocker and a young woman in a narrative of human desire and redemption. Egan will speak and then sign." -Citypaper. Free at the Free Library on 19th and Vine.

John J. O'connor and Kate Abercrombie Art gallery opening- These are the best, weither you are interested in art or not. If you are it's a great chance to talk to the artist and really enjoy looking around and talking about art. If you don't enjoy art, there are always free snacks and wine. I think most people in the world like either free snacks and drinks or art. Therefore I expect to see everyone there! 6-8 Free at Fleisher/Ollman Gallery at 1616 Walnut St.

Sabrina Movie showing- I absolutely adore this movie. It's starring Audrey Hepburn in a sort of Cinderella story where she, the chauffeur's daughter falls in love with one of the men her father works for, and then changes her mind and falls in love with the other one. It's just a feel good movie. At the Ambler Theatre 108 E. Butler Ave 7pm. $6.75-$9.

Strongest Man Arm Wrestling competition- 21+ no cover 9pm. South Philly Bar and Grill 1235 E. Passyunk Ave. Do you have what it takes?

Friday (18)
Panic Years Show- “ The pre-emo passionate vocals, the soft-then-loud transitions, the clangy guitar/catchy-melody combo — these guys woulda fit in just nicely between the Posies and the Pumpkins on 120 Minutes.” ~ Philadelphia CityPaper $8 at the Khyber at 9.

Eversave.com launch party- At Paddywhacks on 150 South St. This is a launch party for a new website, I have no clue what it's about, but they got my attention when they started talking about giveaways, raffles, and free food. And all for no cover to top it all off.


WXPN's Free at noon- At the world cafe live free (duh) at noon (duh) go hear some live music fool.Daly's Irish Pub Drag Show- Who doesn't love a drag show? Only terrible people don't. This is a free one for those of you who are over 21 at Daly's Irish Pub on 4201 Comly St.

In Review: Opening Reception- Please see above for my feeling on gallery openings. This was has things from 10 different artists doing contemporary photography...and drinking free wine.

Kenny Gates- Free from 5:30-7:30 at Chris' Jazz Cafe at 1421 Sansom St.

Toiling In Obscurity X- "Philadelphians with day jobs present an evening of literature, music and comedy. The show will feature: Jaime Fountaine, Doogie Horner, Lee Klein, Steve Manheart, Jeremy Eric Tenenbaum, Becca Trabin and music by Tinmouth."-CityPaper. At the Dive on 947 Passyunk Ave (on Passyunk right before Washington) No cover from 7-10.

Transforming Great Literature to the Stage- Elevator Repair service will perform a piece from their stage interpretation of "The Sun also Rises" by Hemmingway. After the performance they will give a talk about their way of doing theatre and their company, there will be a question and answer, and everything will be followed by a reception where you can meet the actors, talk to everyone else, and probably chow down on free snacks and wine.

Where the Red Fern Grows Movie Showing- I'm not even going to bother explaining this story if you don't already know it. 7pm at Mugshots COffeehouse at Cafe on 2100 Fairmount Ave.

World's Largest- A documentary about towns that use the "World's largest ...." slogan to attract people. The documentary includes things like the world's largest strawberry which is 15 feet, by the way. Pizza at Schmidts at 2nd and Germantown, free at 8:30 pm.


Saturday (19)
Blood Dinner II Show- Wow...this band has some really really awesome influences. Circa Survive, Thrice, and U2. I don't see why you wouldn't want to spend $8 to see them at the Khyber at 9.


Classic Metal night (21+)- from 5-7 get free pizza pizza and $2 beer of the week and well drinks. At the dive Saturday night on Passyunk Ave (by 7th and Carpenter)

Tour of The Kimmel Center Art and Architecture- which if you've ever been in the kimmel center before you know is fascinating. 10:30 in the morning at the Kimmel center on Broad St. (For more information- http://www.kimmelcenter.org/planning/tours.php)

Traditional Irish Music Session (21+)- Join Fergie's Pub on 1214 Sansom St. at 4 for a traditional Irish music session.

Penny drinks and drafts (21+)- yup that's right drinks for a penny, the only catch is that there is a $6 or $7 cover charge. At Roosevelts and Room VII at 23rd and Walnut

18th Annual Islamic Heritage Festival- There will be vendors, games, speakers and entertainment 2-8pm at Penn's Landing 201 S. Columbus Blvd.

Apron Activists Bake Sale- A vegan Bake Sale at the Wooden Shoe (704 South St.). Funds raised will be donated to the National Wildlife Federation's efforts to help the flowers and animals hurt by the recent oil spill.

Back to the Future Anniversary Marathon- Starts at 12pm. At 227 Bridge St. in Phoenixville it's a bit of a travel, but if you're really into the movies this could be fun. $6 for students of $8 for regular admission.

Sunday (20)
The Falcon Lords- At the Khyber, described on the Khyber website as "Nerdy rockers, The Falcon Lords, are a band of crime fighting super heroes. They love music and relaxing in their volcano lair. " All joking aside this might actually be awesome. 8pm.

Lickety Split Standup Sundays- Host Damon D. welcomes all levels of talent, including professionals, TV writers and up-and-comers, for this open mic night. Just because you're welcome doesn't mean he won't make fun of you if you bomb, though. Lickety Split 401 South St. 10pm. Free

12th air porno bingo- 254 S. 12th st. Starts at 10pm.

Improv class- Any level is welcome, aka it's cool if you suck, and if you're good people will all just go "wow" is great for an ego of any level. Get feedback from professionals, and then network in the social hour following the class. Free at the Community Education Center 3500 Lancaster Ave.

Sexy Sunday School- As someone who went to Sunday this is a little disturbing for me, but girls can drink for free, and you know how I love that. It's a costume party...so...dress like you're way to young for the guys who are gonna look at you. Kildare's 4417 Main St.

Showtune Sundays- "Bring your fair lady, put on a technicolor dream coat and come hang out with some guys and dolls who share your love of show tunes. Philly Rising Open Mic Night- World Cafe Live. 7:00 Most people go there and order food and watch the music. Broke people get free water and watch the music. WARNING: Anyone can sign up for this, so on occasion I've seen people playing and reppin dirty jerz bra! Located on 3025 Walnut St.

Free Salsa Lessons (21+)- Free salsa lessons every monday at Vango Lounge and skybar. The drinks can definately get a little expensive there, but rest assured all their beer costs less than $6.

Philadelphia Freedom Band Practice- "The Philadelphia Freedom Band is a concert band for amateur musicians of every sexual persuasion: gay, lesbian, bi, transgender and straight are all welcome. Netural Uke Hotel- Neutral Milk hotel tribute with the spotted attrocious, ukulele orchestra and solved with science. $8 8pm at the Khyber.

Comedy Dreams- A night of stand-up, skits, music, and anything funny. It seems to say $3, but it's hard to read the flyer in the past it's usually free though. Try to read it for yourself here.

$2 Tuesdays- $2 rum and coke, $2 Miller Light, $2 mini burgers, $2 Chicket fingers. At the Rum Bar on 20th and Walnut.

Punk/Metal Show at Jr's Bar- In Ruins (Crusty D-Beat from Atlanta) and philly locals Doomed Youth, Vulcan, and Blood Bomber. 22nd and Passyunk. 8 pm. 5 bucks.

Silk Road Summer Series/Pay-what-you-can nights at Penn Museum- Starting this night, going every Wednesday until August 25, Penn Museum will open select galleries and exhibits alongside live music. This one is Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture, playing traditional Arab Music. 32nd and South. 5-8 pm.

Free Screening of Fast Times at Ridgemont High- If you're in the market for learning how to party from Sean Penn, the World Cafe Live is holding a free showing of the crucial classic. 7 pm @ World Cafe Live.

Metal show at the Khyber- Astral Throne, The Fetals, Assayer, and Barbarism. Get out your beards, long hair, swords and flannel, whoo! It's $8, at 9pm at the Khyber.

Free Outdoor Screening of The Great Outdoors- See The Great Outdoors for free on the Schuykill River Banks by Walnut st. starting at 8:15 pm. Bring blankets and picnic things. If you get there early enough, they are giving away free food and raffling off a bunch of IKEA stuff. They are doing this every other Thursday with different movies throughout the summer!
